energySMART updates

IRS New Tax Compliance

Starting on January 1, 2017, Nicor Gas is required to issue an IRS Form 1099-MISC to some contractors offering instant discounts of $600 or more in rebates annually. These payments will be calculated on a calendar year basis and mailed at the start of the following year. Additionally Nicor Gas is also required to issue an IRS Form 1099-MISC to some businesses and landlords (residential customers are exempt) who receive $600 or more in rebates per calendar year. In both cases, some companies may be exempt from this requirement based on their corporate structure (for example, corporations are just one type that is exempt).

Residential updates

Program your customer’s thermostats for maximum benefit

Help your customers save energy and money year-round by programming their thermostat when in the home. By setting their thermostat you can help them save while staying comfortable this winter. ENERGY STAR recommends setting temperatures back at least eight degrees during away periods.

Incentives for residential new construction builders

Builders can earn up to $450 per home constructed at least 20 percent above current Illinois energy efficiency codes. You’ll reduce warranty calls and increase customer satisfaction. For more information, contact Mike Topitzhofer at 651.200.3417.
