Program Overview

The Nicor Gas Home Energy Efficiency Rebate Program offers cash rebates and energy efficiency tools to help Illinois residents in the Nicor Gas territory save energy and money. Efficiency is now more affordable through the help of the Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Program!

Please note: Certain Program requirements have changed since the previous Program offering. Updates are noted below with "New!" and are effective for all installations completed on or after June 1, 2011.

Please review all of the following Program requirements to ensure that you are eligible to participate in the Home Energy Efficiency Rebate Program.

Who is Eligible?

All current Nicor Gas residential customers are eligible to apply for the Program.

 

Program Dates: 

When is the Program Available?

Qualifying equipment must be purchased and installed during the Program offering period, June 1, 2011 through May 31, 2014.

 

Application Submission Requirements: 

When Are Applications Due?

New! Online applications must be submitted online, and mail-in applications must be postmarked within 90 days of installation, or by June 30, 2014, whichever comes first.

Equipment must be installed and fully operational prior to submitting a Rebate Application.

What is Required With the Rebate Application?

A completed Rebate Application, available here, must be submitted to the Program. Applications must be accompanied by an itemized contractor invoice/proof of purchase receipt submitted to the Rebate Submission Address listed below.

New! If you have a qualifying product or equipment that is not listed on a Qualified Products list, you must submit a copy of the Manufacturer Specification Sheet that includes the equipment/product's efficiency information with your rebate application.

What is Required on the Contractor Invoice/Proof of Purchase Receipt?

Itemized Contractor Invoices/Proof of Purchase Receipts must include all of the following: 

1. Equipment Make, Model and Serial Number

2. Total Installed Cost (Itemized by Equipment)

3. New! Purchase Date

4. New! Installation Date

5. Professional Contractor’s Business/Company Name, Address and Phone Number

6. New! Balance Due of Zero, Paid In Full Stamp or Payment Terms

Where Do I Mail In My Rebate Application and/or Supporting Documentation?

Mail-in applications with supporting documentation, as well as the Itemized Contractor Invoice/Proof of Purchase Receipt to accompany an online application, must be submitted to the Rebate Submission Address listed below.

What Equipment is Eligible for Rebates?

Visit the Rebate Information page for complete requirements for high efficiency furnaces, boilers and water heaters.

Equipment must meet all equipment-specific, energy efficiency and Program requirements outlined in this checklist and on the Rebate Information page.

All equipment must be installed and operational prior to submitting a Rebate Application.

All equipment must be new. Resale equipment, new parts installed in existing equipment, or equipment that is leased, rebuilt, rented, received from insurance claims or won as a prize do not qualify.

 

Installation Requirements:

Where Can I Install Qualifying Equipment?

Equipment must be installed in an existing single-family home or a multi-family dwelling of three units or less.

How Do I Install Qualifying Equipment?

Installation must be completed by a professional contractor conforming to all applicable building, local and state codes, and manufacturer specifications.

 

Applicant Requirements:

I am a Residing Tenant and Do Not Own the Property Where the Equipment is Being Installed. Can I Participate in the Program?

New! As a residing tenant, you may be eligible to participate in the Program. If you do not own the property where the qualifying equipment is to be installed, as a residing tenant you are responsible for obtaining the property owner's permission to install the equipment for which you are applying for a rebate. Your signature on the rebate application indicates that you have obtained this permission. All other Program requirements apply. 

I am a Landlord and the Gas Account is in My Name. Can I Participate in the Program?

Yes. As the Nicor Gas Account Holder, please complete the Rebate Application following all Program rules, requirements and instructions.

I am a Landlord and the Gas Account is in My Tenant’s Name. Can I Participate in the Program?

Yes. All of the following requirements apply.

You must supply your tenant’s account number, name and information (as listed on their Nicor Gas Account) on the Rebate Application.

Select Building Owner/Landlord under “Make Check Payable To.” Include your name and address.

Complete the Rebate Application, meeting all other Program requirements.

Have your tenant, the Nicor Gas Account Holder, sign the Customer Release Form for Landlord Applicants, available for download by clicking here.

Submit the following with your completed Rebate Application:

1. Copy of the Contractor Invoice/Proof of Purchase signed by the purchaser.

2. All applicable Itemized Contractor Invoices/Proof of Purchase Receipts and required documentation, as required by the Program.

3. Completed and Nicor Gas Account Holder-signed Customer Release Form.

Please note: Your tenant may be contacted to verify that the rebated equipment was paid for and installed as listed on the Rebate Application.

 

Instant Discount Option:

I am a Nicor Gas Customer and My Contractor Offered me an “Instant Discount.” How Do I Participate?

Visit the Instant Discount Page for complete details. By utilizing the Instant Discount Option, your contractor will provide the rebate to you as an upfront discount, deducting it from the total cost of your qualifying equipment installation. Your contractor will then receive the rebate from the Home Energy Efficiency Rebate Program directly. Additional steps are required and all Program requirements apply.

I am a Contractor and Want to Offer the Instant Discount. How Do I Participate?

Visit the Instant Discount Page for complete details. You can offer the rebate from the Home Energy Efficiency Rebate Program as a discount on your customers’ invoice for a qualifying installation and receive the rebate directly. The Instant Discount is not mandatory. All Program rules and requirements apply. Contractors offering the Instant Discount must submit a copy of the customer invoice showing the rebate amount deducted from the total cost paid by the customer. The Nicor Gas Account Holder must sign the invoice.
