Why should I enroll in the Contractor Circle?
In addition to utilizing the Instant Discount option, you and your staff will have access to contractor resources, tools, trainings and more to help you sell high efficiency equipment and participate in the Business and Home Energy Efficiency Rebate Programs. Enrolling in the Contractor Circle also ensures that you and your staff have all of the information to take full advantage of the Business and Home Energy Efficiency Rebate Programs, and provides you with the resources to help your customers participate in these programs.
Instant Discount Questions
What is the Instant Discount?
The Instant Discount is an optional offering participating contractors may provide to their customers. The Instant Discount is an upfront credit off of the total purchase price paid by the customer in the full amount of the eligible rebate. Select the Instant Discount option in the menu to the left for more information.
Do I have to enroll in the Contractor Circle to offer an Instant Discount to my customer?
Yes. Enrollment in the Contractor Circle is required for Instant Discount applications. The Program will soon be limiting the payment of rebate checks for Instant Discounts to only those contractors enrolled in the Contractor Circle. If you have rebate applications for Instant Discounts to submit, or you have recently submitted an application, the Program will process your applications. However, you will still be required to enroll in the Program for future Instant Discount participation, and the Program will work with you to complete the enrollment.
Enrolled contractors will receive a username and password for the online application system for Contractor Circle Members. The online application system is for Instant Discount applications only.
Enrollment is easy – complete the enrollment process above as soon as possible to ensure there are no delays in processing future applications for Instant Discounts.
My company is not currently enrolled in the Contractor Circle but we have submitted a rebate application for an Instant Discount. Can we still get a rebate?
Yes. Your rebate application will be processed, but you will be required to enroll in the Contractor Circle in order to continue offering the Instant Discount. Enrollment is easy – complete the enrollment process above as soon as possible to ensure there are no delays in processing future applications for Instant Discounts.
Does my company have to join the Contractor Circle in order to install qualifying equipment for eligible Nicor Gas customers (i.e. non-Instant Discount installations)?
No. Contractors and companies not enrolled in the Contractor Circle are still able to complete regular, non-Instant Discount installations for eligible Nicor Gas customers. Contractors and companies do not need to be a Circle Member for their customers to participate in the Business and/or Home Energy Efficiency Rebate Program. However, only those contractors enrolled in the Contractor Circle may offer the Instant Discount to their customers and receive a rebate directly from either Program.
I don’t utilize the Instant Discount option. Why should I enroll in the Contractor Circle?
The Instant Discount option is only one of the many great benefits available to contractors enrolled in the Circle. What is the Program informational session and why is it required?
The Program informational session is the Program’s opportunity to welcome you and your team into the Contractor Circle, and provide you with a comprehensive overview of the Business and Home Energy Efficiency Rebate Programs. To fulfill this requirement, you can attend a Program training or event, or we can work with you to schedule an informal meeting with your staff to provide you with the Program information. Who needs to attend the Program informational session?
At least one representative from your company must attend a Program informational session. General Enrollment Questions
Why am I required to complete a W-9 Form?
Contractors who wish to offer the Instant Discount option must submit a signed IRS Form W-9 upon enrollment into the Contractor Circle. Rebates paid to your business may be taxable, and the Program is required to issue payees who receive more than $600 in rebates in a calendar year with an IRS Form 1099, unless you are exempt (i.e. corporations and other tax exempt payees will not be issued the IRS Form 1099). The Program encourages all Program participants to consult with a tax professional on how to handle rebate payments and any tax liability that may be associated.
